The favourable local soil and climate, and especially the sun of Thrace, contribute to the fame of the Chirpan region as one of
the best vine-growing and wine-producing regions of Bulgaria. Far from any industial
sites, Svoboda Winery is situated in a clean environment, in a region
with the characteristic for vine production cinammon-forest type soil. The
climate is trans-continental with Mediterranean influence, with an even distribution of
rainfalls throughout the year and the optimal amount of sun.
Wine production in this
region dates back to the time of the ancient Thracians, the first civilised
inhabitants of the Balkan Peninsula, who were
skillful vine-growers and amazing wine masters. The Thracian wine
was renowned and in great demand in the Roman Empire.
